I decided to voice my opinion before reading the articles, so that it would be an honest portrayal of my thoughts on the matter before it was influenced.
It doesn't matter, but I guess if I have to identify my religion, I would have to say I probably come closest to the views of Jesuits, a Holy Order of the Roman Catholic Church.
I see no way to soften it: I think those who are practicing homosexuals are in grave danger and are risking going to Hell. On the other hand, here on Earth, it is their choice, and as long as nobody is being sexually harassed, it is their business, and I have no right to interfere. If asked for my opinion, I give it, but I am not going to actively interfere any more than I would with someone selling flowers and brightly colored books at O'Hare international Airport.
I have people who I consider to be good friends who are homosexuals; at least, that is what they claim.
I know there are all sorts of arguements both pro and con, but on this one, I think it just comes down to your own personal beliefs. I know I am supposed to be a "Soldier of Christ." That is what we reaffirm during the Holy Sacrament of Confirmation. I figure that for this subject, a quiet and reasonable discussion with the concerned individual is what my job is. If they ask me, and many have, I quietly try to explain why I think it is a mortal sin.
What arguements do I use? I mean, its not right there in the Ten Commandments; at least not directly. But early on in the Bible, we are exhorted to "go forth and procreate/multiply." Then there are the marriage vows themselves. People can argue that the "traditional" vows are not set in concrete anywhere, but I just cannot get around the roles in a marriage, if both are of the same sex. Third, I believe that having children is part of a marriage. I am on weak ground here, because there is always adoption, and I happen to be a proponent of adoption by good Christians, so a gay couple adopting can easily be portrayed as very Christian. Personally, I am a failure here, on this subject, sadly.
I do not have a single strong arguement to use, to be honest. But I do know you are risking your very soul by practicing homosexuality. So all I tell my friends is this, "I pray you are 100% certain that the lifestyle you have chosen does not damn you, and I hope you will pray that I am foregiven all my sins as well."
To be honest, I am more concerned that their children, and many female homosexuals do have children, are getting a good, Christian upbringing, including Sunday School, Church, and the like, than I am about the homosexuality.
So, I will pray for all homosexuals, not out of pity or anything like that, but because they are human beings with souls, and I am absolutely positive that Jesus Christ wants me to pray for my fellow man, even my enemies, and I see no enemies involved in this subject!
Prayer is the most powerful weapon a Soldier of Christ wields. I have seen more than enough true miracles in my life to convince me of that fact. He definitely cares about every single one of us, and that is the biggest miracle of all! Fe Mon Allah! (Go With God!)

[...] Gay Rights, Homosexuality and Christians Posted on Thursday, March 19th, 2009 in Christian Living - Comments: (1) Gay Rights, Homosexuality and ChristiansI know this is going to be one of those things that I write that is going to bring in a lot of “hate” mail on both sides, but it’s the way I see things. Feel free to try to change my mind…. not that you will…but, feel free to try.The way I see it:I’m getting tired of all the Gay bashing and Homophobia within Christian circles lately…. especially from those who also are more than willing to look the other way when it comes to premarital sex, adultery and pornography.Homosexuality is not the unpardonable sin, so why do we as Christians treat it as such? We would love to hear your comments and feedback on Christian Living and invite you to subscribe to our RSS feed by clicking on the big button in the sidebar. [...]

I appreciate what you said about "goals based on our own desires", and "coveting lists". I am constantly having to readjust my thinking to stay on track with seeking His desires, as well as not wanting the good stuff He has blessed others with that He has not blessed me with yet. Hope your "God vacation" goes well. I took one over the New Year's holiday; so wonderful!
