Christian Living – I’m not Martha…
No one will ever confuse me with Martha Stewart or Martha the sister of Mary and Lazarus.
I’ve never been called “Susie Homemaker” and probally never will.
If you were to pull into my driveway for a surprise visit, I can guarantee you, I’ll be there before you can get out of your car. Not because I’m so glad to see you (although in must cases I will be at least mildly curious), but to stall and give my son time to run around the house picking up the doggie toys and dirty dishes.
We’ll have a nice chat on the porch, while the sink gets cleared of yesterdays dinner pans and piles of papers get shoved into drawers.
If you stop by for dinner, expect pizza because I’m a lousy cook.
Don’t ever expect to see me wearing clothes that have been ironed.
You won’t find any beautiful craft projects on the wall or fancy anything in my home, but you will find a basket full of Bible tracts by the front door, and Bibles in almost every room.
My son won’t have the latest “Cool” clothes but he will have on a Christian shirt. He’s a walking billboard for Jesus.
I won’t be able to discuss Politics and the latest TV Dramas, but I can talk about Jesus all day long.
If you need help with the latest cleaning tips, or hottest fashions, don’t even think about asking me, but if you want to know “How to teach your kids about God” or “Best places to get Bible Tracts” then I’m your girl.
If I had to choose between being Martha and being Mary, the sister that sat at Jesus’ feet, I would choose to be Mary, but it sure would be nice to be both.
With the busy modern lives so many woman are leading today, I’m shocked that any of us have time to just sit and listen to Jesus. We’re like Martha rushing around trying to do it all, praying for someone to come help and just give us a break.
The answer to that prayer is the same one Jesus gave to Martha…. “Stop the Insanity, sit awhile, spend some time with me first”…. that’s The Wimpy Witness paraphrased version but basically that’s what HE said.
Housework will always be there, the poor will always be there, there will always be somebody that needs a ride to some practice, game or event. Laundry will never be finished and clutter reproduces like rabbits. If you wait until it’s all done before you take time for yourself, you will never have the experience of just resting in the Lord.

Hi Penny,
You mean I’m not the only one out here?
It’s nice to meet a kindred sister.
